1. What was the moment, life event or inspiration behind starting your brand?
Before business school, I worked in the nail industry and saw firsthand the issues — from harsh chemicals to inconsistent standards. Starting Sundays came after a period of deep reflection. I asked myself: Is this something I truly believe in? Can I devote the next 10 years to this?
The answer was yes — because it’s about more than nails. It’s about creating a safer space for both clients and employees, supporting immigrant communities like the one I came from.
2. How has your AAPI heritage and culture shaped and informed your brand?
As an immigrant from China, my journey has shaped every part of sundays. I still remember how hard it was navigating a world where I didn’t speak the language, that’s why we use numbers instead of polish names, to make our salons more inclusive, especially for immigrant nail specialists.
My Chinese-American heritage taught me the strength of quiet individuality. At sundays, we believe beauty should never come at the cost of your health. Every product we create carries a message: we are all beautiful in our own ways, we do not have to sacrifice health for beauty.
3. Is there a specific TCM ingredient (or practice) that you use in your products that you are most excited about right now, and why?
I’ve always been passionate about Traditional Chinese Medicine, especially the power of goji berries and ginger. We use them in our Ancient Ritual Foot Soak because of their natural benefits — goji berries help calm the mind and support better sleep, while ginger boosts circulation and relieves tension. Together, they create a beautiful balance of relaxation and renewal, rooted in ancient wisdom but made for modern self-care.
4. What advice would you give to other aspiring AAPI entrepreneurs?
Be proud of who you are — not the perfect version, but the real one. Many of us grew up with values of hard work and perfection, which can push us forward but also make us afraid to show up fully.
Your culture, your story, your perspective — they’re not something to overcome, but something to honor. Multiculturalism is a strength. Share your voice. That’s how we make space for others to do the same.
